Limp Bizkit's first full length release that kicks some major donkey arse. This CD came out and was quite the underground buzz for a while. The band toured an awful lot using this material and began to get some recognition. When they finally landed a spot on MTV's spring break in 1998, their sales increased and things started to change. Fred made a video for the George Michael cover song "Faith" and it hit MTV and soon became one of the top 10 videos on Total Request Live. Before they knew it, they were hanging out with Carson Daly. Carson would be hanging with Nsync one second, and the next he would be calling Limp Bizkit "Fred and Co" and saying they are "rad." It's all in good fun though. Many fans (including myself) figured that LB sold out big time I was pretty pissed off actually at the whole deal and started to bitch about them on my old fan site from 1998. Wes eventually came across my site and decided to e-mail me about it. He talked to me, and believe it or not... he made perfect sense as to why they DIDN'T sell out and it's just how it is. The band didn't know it was going to happen. They were exposed to more people by being on MTV and the kids liked what they saw and the band BLEW UP! So be proud and don't bitch about them selling out, because if you were in a band, you would be very happy to be on MTV. If it wasn't for MTV many bands wouldn't be around because they would starve and go broke!

With their major-label debut, Three Dollar Bill Y'All, Limp Bizkit quickly rose to the top of the alt-metal subgenre known as rapcore. Part of the reason the band stood out from their peers was their kinetic, frenzied energy. They might not have many original ideas -- they are largely an outgrowth of Korn, Faith No More and the Chili Peppers -- but they do the sound well. They have a powerful rhythm section and memorable hooks, most of which make up for the uneven songwriting. Then again, you're not looking for perfection on a debut -- you're looking for a promising sound, and on that front, Limp Bizkit delivers.
